Discovering the Ampersand aims to document and bring appreciation to the ampersand as a versatile, fascinating, and beautiful symbol. The comprehensive book is the culmination of 4 months of taking photos all around Boston. Ampersands were collected within a range of contexts: storefronts, wine bottles, gravestones, litter, lamppost stickers, flyers, street signs, and just about everything in sight.
The photography process concluded with over 1300 ampersands located across 10 different Boston neighborhoods. The book also details the history of the ampersand as well as its importance as a symbol and reasons for its usages. Each spread holds a different theme such as location, style, or attributes.
